How Venmo fees work
Venmo charges a fee when you get paid for goods and services. Personal payments between friends are free. What you pay depends on the type of account that receives the money:
- Personal account, goods and services: 2.99% of the payment. On $50 you keep $48.50.
- Business profile (direct or QR code): 1.9% + $0.10. On $100 you keep $98.00.
- Business profile with Tap to Pay: 2.29% + $0.09. On $100 you keep $97.62.
These rates come from Venmo's fees page, which Venmo's User Agreement names as the place its fees are set. Business profile fees apply to payments of $1.00 or more.
A payment counts as goods and services when the sender marks it that way. That also gives the buyer Venmo's Purchase Protection. If you refund the buyer, there is no fee for the refund, but the seller fee you paid is not returned.
Getting your money out
- Standard transfer to your bank is free and usually arrives in 1–3 business days.
- Instant Transfer costs 1.75% of the amount, with a minimum fee of $0.25 and a maximum of $25.
Transfer fees aren't included in the calculator, because they are charged when you move money out, not on each sale.
How to pay less on Venmo
- Sell through a business profile if you sell regularly. 1.9% + $0.10 costs less than 2.99% on any payment over about $9.
- Use standard transfers. Instant Transfer adds 1.75% on top of the seller fee.

Some Venmo marketing and help pages quote other rates, such as 2.9% + $0.09 for Tap to Pay. This calculator follows the fees page, because the User Agreement points there. Check your Venmo app for the rate on your account.

Is it free to receive money on Venmo?
